Neuropathy Program

ProCare for neuropathy

Neuropathy is a result of nerve damage causing pain and numbness in your hands or feet. Whether from disease, trauma or exposure to toxins, the effects can be debilitating, making everyday life more difficult. If you are experiencing any of the following signs or symptoms, peripheral neuropathy may be the cause:

  • Pain
  • Weakness
  • Numbness
  • Hypersensitivities
  • Gait abnormalities
  • Endurance deficits
  • Motion limitations
  • Balance impairments

Typically, doctors treat neuropathy with analgesic medications. At ProCare, we have solutions to overcome the pain and loss of function, helping you live more comfortably, more fully. We take a comprehensive approach to our treatment of peripheral neuropathy. We use modalities to decrease pain and therapeutic exercise, functional activities and muscle re-education to improve lost function that has made daily activities difficult ÔÇô or even impossible. In physical therapy, we can treat neuropathy with several modalities, including electrical stimulation, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) or Anodyne┬« Therapy to help relieve symptoms.

With TENS, we simply place adhesive electrodes on the skin and apply a gentle electric current through the electrodes at varying intensity and waveforms. TENS is most effective when it is applied regularly and used in conjunction with other therapies.

Anodyne® Therapy is infrared light therapy effective in treating acute pain, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain and/or poor circulation caused by chemotherapy, diabetes, vascular and other conditions. Studies demonstrate exceptional outcomes, including restoration of sensation in patients with peripheral neuropathy, pain reduction, increased nerve conduction and faster healing of diabetic ulcers and other chronic wounds.
