Michelle Biggs, PT

Michelle Biggs, PT - South Plainfield, Bridgewater, NJ

“I knew I wanted to do something in health care from a young age. At 15, I volunteered at my local hospital as a Candy Striper and spent time on a nursing unit and in a physical therapy department. I liked the one-on-one care with exercises, education and treatment to help each person regain movement. I decided that I wanted to be a physical therapist.

"My education at Kean College/UMDNJ provided me with a strong base on which to build my knowledge and skills in practicing physical therapy. My experience working in many environments such as hospital settings, inpatient rehabilitation and home care has helped me to grow and understand people at many different levels of recovery.

“I am a friendly, caring, empathetic person and I feel I portray that to each patient I see. I believe in a balance of modalities to decrease pain with stretching, strengthening and education in posture and body mechanics work to help a patient achieve their goals in physical therapy.”

“Being an athlete my whole life and suffering my fair share of injuries made me want to do something in the medical field to help others who have suffered injuries themselves. After experiencing physical therapy firsthand, I knew I wanted to do just that.

“My experience at Northeastern University prepared me for a career of continuing education so I can better educate my patients. I pride myself on having an innate ability to connect and effectively communicate with my patients to progress their healing process as rapidly as possible.

“I find it most beneficial to teach my patients as much as possible about their diagnosis so they can understand the mechanics of their injuries and learn to manage their symptoms in the future. If a patient understands why they are hurting, they are more apt to follow their home care program.“
